Race engineer Peter Bonnington – Bono says he felt “like a rock star walked in” when he started working with Lewis Hamilton.

When Bonnington started working with Lewis Hamilton in 2013, he was a relatively young engineer at the time. However previously he worked with Michael Schumacher while the German was at Mercedes.

”Previously I worked with Michael,” Bono told Sky Sports F1 after Hamilton clinched his seventh F1 championship.

“That was a legend and a great driver. At that time with Michael I learned a lot and when Lewis came it didn’t feel like I was ready to assist someone who already had a world title in his pocket.

“The first time we started working together it felt like a rock star walked in.

”One world title can’t be compared to another, but it’s clear that every year we improve in order to finish at the top. In such a relationship it’s about trusting each other and understanding each other.

“We have grown since we started together in 2013 when I really saw myself as a young engineer,” concludes Bonnington.
