Auto Motor und Sport reports that an unnamed Mercedes source said the team believes Red Bull can run their car “ten millimetres lower than everyone else”.

There’s no doubt that Red Bull’s 2023 car – the RB19, impressed everyone during 2023 Pre-Season Testing, with most observers and analysts thinking that it will be the car to beat when the season starts this weekend in Bahrain.

Now, Auto Motor und sport reports that “adjusted for factors such as fuel, engine mode and track temperature, the Red Bull with the World Champion in the cockpit is estimated to be two to four tenths faster than Ferrari and six tenths than the Mercedes”.

Furthermore, AMuS reports that an unnamed source within Mercedes told them that Red Bull can run closer to the ground than other teams, without experiencing porpoising.

“They are ten millimetres lower than everyone else. If we drove that low, the underbody would break,” the source allegedly said.

Earlier, Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff highlighted several other characteristics of the RB19.

“They brake later, accelerate much earlier and gain an incredible amount of time with better traction,” the Austrian told AMuS.

“If we approach the corners like this, we don’t even get to the apex,” Wolff concluded.

It remains to be seen what the balance of power will be at this weekend’s Bahrain Grand Prix.
