Lewis Hamilton recently gave his comments on McLaren being powered by Mercedes and said he hopes the team can fight at the top again.

Mercedes will once again be supplying engines to McLaren from 2021. The rekindling of the legendary and successful partnership is something Lewis Hamilton hopes will help McLaren get to the top of the grid again.

McLaren Team Principal Andreas Seidl says the team appreciates Lewis’ words of support.

“It’s obviously nice for all of us at McLaren that Lewis, who started his career at McLaren and won his first title with McLaren, is respecting and watching the progress we make as a team,” the German said.

Seidl also commented on the cooperation between McLaren and Mercedes’ power unit factory in Brixworth. From 1995 until 2009 McLaren was the de facto Mercedes’ works team, until the German manufacturer decided to join Formula 1 as a constructor.

“The guys in Brixworth are obviously very experienced,” Seidl continued.

“There is obviously a bit of history between the guys at Brixworth and McLaren which helped to get going again, but it is also clear that it is a different partnership compared to the past.

“There is a Mercedes works team in Formula 1 and we are a customer, but I am very happy with everything I have seen so far with the integration of the Mercedes power unit.

“It is going really well and we should be in good shape from the first race onwards.”

Last week McLaren fired up the Mercedes engine in their 2021 car – the MCL35M. You can watch the video below.
