After the collision between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen, Mercedes asked Valtteri Bottas to drive close to Lewis’ car and look for signs of damage.

The collision took Verstappen out of the race, while Lewis Hamilton managed to continue, albeit unsure if his car will be ok.

After the incident a Safety Car came out and Mercedes had an unusual request for Valtteri Bottas, who was just behind Hamilton.

The Finn’s race engineer Riccardo Musconi came on the radio and told Bottas: “Valtteri, you can go alongside Lewis, don’t overtake him, have a look if you can see any damage on his car, just stay behind him.”

The Finn asked if he should look for damage on the left side of Lewis’ car and then drove a bit ahead to take a look.

“Honestly, I don’t see a lot,” Valtteri said.

“Maybe some small bits on the front wing but…”

Musconi then said “thank you, you are staying out”, while Valtteri responded with: “yeah, looks pretty good”.

It was an amazing bit of team-work that you can witness for yourself in the video below.

Very soon the race was stopped and it allowed Mercedes to carry out some small repairs with the help of some “tape and glue”.
