Former Formula 1 driver Sébastien Bourdais slams Sergio Perez for “purposely slowing down and using every dirty trick to impede Hamilton”.

During the 2021 season finale in Abu Dhabi Red Bull used Sergio Perez to slow down Lewis Hamilton and allow Max Verstappen to close a significant gap Lewis had built up until then.

After the race Max Verstappen, the Red Bull team and many other Formula 1 journalists and presenters have heavily praised the Mexican for holding up Lewis as much as he could.

One of those people was Will Buxton, who called his driving “sensational” on social media. He quickly received a response from former Formula 1 driver Sébastien Bourdais.

“I thought you loved racing, that was BS!” Bourdais responded.

“I can’t begin to understand how Perez can be happy with himself and how people applaud him for what he did.

“Purposely slowing down and using every dirty trick to impede Hamilton. Zero sportsmanship, from the whole team really.”

In his further responses Bourdais continued to criticise Checo and the Red Bull team for their ‘tactics’.

“They completely sacrificed Perez’s race to put him in that position. Losing purposely seconds per lap to impede, look again…

“He wasn’t trying to stay ahead, but only slowing Lewis as much time as possible,” the Frenchman concluded.
