After the first postive COVID-19 test yesterday, Mercedes now confirms another F1 team member tested positive and flies in replacemets.

Yesterday Mercedes reported that one of their F1 team members tested positive for COVID-19 and was being handled in accordance with FIA protocols. RaceFans.net reported that the case in question was not thought to involve Lewis Hamilton or Valtteri Bottas.

“We can confirm that a team member has tested positive,” Mercedes’ spokesperson said.

“This has been handled and is being handled in line with FIA protocols, working closely with the FIA.

“We ask for your understanding that we won’t be offering additional details.”

Of Friday Mercedes confirmed that another team member tested positive and one more test was “inconclusive”. As a result of the positive tests, further four team members are in isolation.

“Following yesterday’s positive test, the entire team was retested yesterday in Germany,” said the spokesperson

“All team members were negative apart from: one further positive, one inconclusive that is being retested.”

“In line with protocols, four further team members, all of whom tested negative, will no longer be available to take part in the weekend. Six replacements have travelled from the UK and will fill the roles in the team.

“We have worked in close collaboration with the FIA and F1 throughout this process and will continue to do so.”

Mercedes is just one of the teams to experience positive COVID-19 tests this year. The other teams who already dealt with the issue are McLaren and Racing Point.

We will be posting more news here as they become available.
