Valtteri Bottas has received a three-place grid penalty for ignoring single-waved yellow flags during Qatar Grand Prix Qualifying.

In the closing moments of the Qatar Grand Prix Qualifying, Pierre Gasly stopped on the start-finish straight after he struck a kerb which ripped off his car’s front wing and caused a tyre puncture.

The incident brought out yellow flags which requires drivers to slow down. As the FIA reports Valtteri Bottas did not slow down.

“The Stewards heard from the driver of Car 77 (Valtteri Bottas), the team representative and have reviewed video, telemetry and the marshalling system evidence,” said the stewards’ note.

“The driver admitted he did not notice the yellow flag displayed at Flag Point 16.6 and conceded that he did not reduce speed as required in the yellow flag area despite noting that Car 10 was stationary on the pit straight.”

Therefore the FIA has handed Bottas a three-place grid penalty for the Qatar Grand Prix.

Max Verstappen has also been summoned to the stewards for ignoring double-waved yellow flags. Yellow flag rules are very strict and ahead of the weekend Race Director Michael Masi warned drivers that they must abandon laps when double-waved flags shown.
