Sky Sports reports that Lewis Hamilton and tennis star Serena Williams have joined Sir Martin Broughton in his Chelsea F.C. takeover bid.

According to Sky Sports’ report, Lewis Hamilton and Serena Williams have pledged an estimated £10m each to former Liverpool and British Airways chairman Sir Martin Broughton’s takeover offer for Roman Abramovich’s Chelsea Football Club.

After the full line-up of investors backing Broughton’s takeover offer for the club has been made public, Hamilton and Williams have been revealed as two most prominent names.

Sky Sports reports that “a source close to the group said the addition of Hamilton and Williams was a serious investment decision because of their experience at building global sports brands”.

They add that “one insider suggested that Hamilton was likely to play a formal role in Chelsea’s future efforts to promote diversity, equity and inclusion if the bid is successful”.

The news comes as a somewhat of a surprise, especially considering that Lewis has been public about being an Arsenal fan.

Other than Sir Martin Broughton, Boston Celtics and Atalanta co-owner Steve Pagliuca and investor Todd Boehly head two remaining consortiums in the race to buy the club.
