Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc has condemned Nelson Piquet’s racist words aimed at Lewis Hamilton, and has expressed his support for the Briton.

After an audio clip of three-time Formula 1 champion Nelson Piquet using a racial slur when referring to Lewis Hamilton came to light, many F1 drivers, teams and journalists decided to publicly express their support for the Briton.

One of those drivers was Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc, who publicly condemned Piquet’s words.

“Knowing Lewis since I arrived in Formula 1, he has always been extremely respectful to me, and everyone that he meets,” Leclerc wrote on his social media channels.

“Those values should be the standard towards anybody around the world. The comments made towards Lewis should not be tolerated, and we should continue to push for a more diverse and inclusive sport.

“We need to remove discriminatory behaviour and racist language in any form, from not just our sport, but our society as well,” he concluded.
