When Max Verstappen came to Silverstone for the British Grand Prix, he was greeted with a chorus of boos from the British fans. Christian Horner reacts.

Considering how fierce the competition has been between Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen in 2021, and how much bad blood there had been between Mercedes and Red Bull, it’s not surprising that Max wasn’t the most popular person when he arrived at Lewis’ home circuit of Silverstone.

The Dutch driver was greeted by a chorus of boos, and Red Bull team boss Christian Horner was asked to give his comments on the reception.

“Of course, Lewis is going to have huge support here,” Horner said.

“Next weekend is another home race for us in Austria and I am sure we are going to have huge support with 30,000 Dutch fans there so that is sport. That is competition.

“It is never nice to hear boos for any driver and it is unusual for a British GP crowd to do that because they usually appreciate all drivers but, you know what, it is something he accepts.

“Lewis is their favourite driver here, I have no issue with that,” the Briton concluded.
