Christian Horner says Red Bull is not “gloating” amid Mercedes’ current performance issues, but they also don’t have any “sympathy”.

Mercedes has been having serious performance issues since the beginning of the 2022 season, which has rendered them unable to compete at the top of the grid.

According to Red Bull team boss Christian Horner, Mercedes’ 2021 rival is not taking any pleasure from the team’s misfortunes.

“There’s no time for sympathy,” Horner told the Standard newspaper.

“It’s not a matter of sympathy or gloating, it’s about focusing on your own issues.”

Considering how tense the rivalry between the two teams was last year, it’s no surprise that a lot of wars of words erupted between them.

In an earlier interview, Horner said it’s different this year.

“We are still at the very early stages of the championship. I’m sure it will get more tense as the season progresses.

“But there’s a greater respect between the two teams than perhaps with Mercedes last season.”

As for his relationship with Mercedes’ team boss Toto Wolff, he said:

“We are just two very different people. Our priorities are different.

“That doesn’t mean there isn’t a respect, but we are different personalities,” he concluded.

Wolff also praised his 2021 rival, but made it clear the Briton’s personality would not fit into Mercedes.

“I think that Christian is very capable,” the Austrian said.

“He’s a really good racing team manager. But he wouldn’t fit in the group,” he concluded with a smile.
