1996 Formula 1 champion Damon Hill says he can ‘feel in his bones’ that Lewis Hamilton will win in 2022, and adds the Spa rule change “should peg back Ferrari and Red Bull”.

During his appearance on the Beyond the Grid podcast, Damon Hill predicted Lewis Hamilton will take his first win of the 2022 season at this weekend’s Belgian Grand Prix.

“I think it’s going to be Lewis,” the Briton said.

“I think if it’s going to be anyone other than the obvious, you know Max Verstappen victory, then I think I’m going to plump for Lewis because I feel in my bones he is going win a race this year.

“I just think it could be situations at Spa that could fall into his into his lap a little bit.

“He’s won there four times and teams make a big thing of momentum going into the summer break, don’t they?

“Well, Mercedes had that because they would have had a front row lockout in Hungary had Hamilton not had that DRS problem in qualifying, so they had the momentum.”

Hill also added Mercedes should be in a better position to win this weekend, due to “that slight rule change which should peg back Ferrari and Red Bull”.

The 1996 champion is referring to the FIA’s ‘anti porpoising’ technical directive, which will prevent teams from running flexible floors, and it is thought that Red Bull and Ferrari have using this solution since the beginning of the season.
