James Hinchcliffe said it seemed Netflix was making the calls in Abu Dhabi, while Danica Patrick agreed the ending of the race “didn’t seem fair”.

Many current and former drivers have publicly voiced their displeasure with the calls the FIA made at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

In the crucial final laps of the race, race director Michael Masi basically ignored the rules and protocol of the Safety Car and created a situation which allowed Max Verstappen to take the race win and the 2021 title.

This led to a lot of ex and current drivers publicly criticising the decisions that have been made, among them IndyCar driver James Hinchcliffe, who immediately made his feelings known on Twitter.

“Man, racing is wild when Netflix is making the calls,” Hinchcliffe wrote sarcastically.

Former IndyCar and NASCAR driver Danica Patrick retweeted this in agreement.

“Totally! [Definitely] didn’t seem fair but exciting to watch,” Patrick wrote.

1978 Formula 1 champion, and also an IndyCar legend, Mario Andretti wrote a message praising Hamilton for his conduct during and after the race.

“Master Class on how to be the best in every way,” he wrote on Twitter.

“A champion who wins most days & shows the world how to behave & stay composed when situations aren’t kind to you.

“LH brings his A-game even when his soul is ripped out.  Strength. Control of spirit. Role model,” Andretti concluded.
