Just before the FIA announced Red Bull’s 2021 budget cap breach, F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali said “we need to be sure that all the teams have spent the same amount in the development of their cars”.
Last week the FIA announced that Red Bull has breached the 2021 budget cap, but no further details were released.
While Formula 1 fans and the media are engaged in speculation on how the FIA intends to penalize the Austrian team, key people in the FIA and Formula 1 are still silent.
However, back in September, Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali was very clear on how important it was to maintain the budget cap and keep the new regulations’ credibility.
“I think it’s a crucial aspect,” the Italian said.
“We need to be sure that whoever supervises compliance with the financial rules ensures that everything runs smoothly.

“I know that the FIA is working hard, and it is an important step because we need to be sure that all the teams have spent the same amount in the development of their cars.
“Everything must be checked and verified. This will be the central theme of the coming months.
“And from here the credibility of these regulations will also come,” Domenicali concluded.
It remains to be seen if the penalty the FIA decides to dish out will strenghten or weaked the new financial regulations.
