Two-time Formula 1 champion Fernando Alonso answers comment from Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko, who implied the Spaniard would be willing to help Max Verstappen in the title fight.

At the Hungarian Grand Prix Fernando Alonso managed to hold off Lewis Hamilton for several laps in their battle for P4, which ultimately prevented the Briton from winning the race.

After the race Alonso bafflingly said that his defending was “also important for Max”. This has prompted Red Bull advisor Dr Helmut Marko to imply that Alonso might be willing to help Verstappen in the future.

“We know Alonso is not a big Hamilton fan, which we saw in Budapest,” Marko said.

Well, when the Spaniard heard those comments, he told Marko that his team will have to fight their own battles.

“I read that, but I always run my own race,” Alonso said.

“In Hungary, yes, we managed to fight Hamilton. But that was mainly due to the track. Mercedes and Red Bull are normally much too fast. Look at Monza, when Bottas started last and still finished on the podium.

“So of course, I like to fight with good drivers, but I think Red Bull really has to do it themselves this season,” concluded the Spanish driver.
