Alfa Romeo team principal Fred Vasseur says the penalty Red Bull gets for their 2021 cost cap breach “is crucial for F1 and for the future of the cost cap”.

As the Formula 1 world waits for the conversations between Red Bull and the FIA, over the team’s 2021 cost cap breach, to resume, more and more representatives from other F1 teams are coming out with their opinions on what the punishment should be.

Alfa Romeo team principal Fred Vasseur is adamant that a mere financial penalty will not be enough in this case.

“The most important thing for me is that it is a good level of penalty,” Vasseur said.

“This is crucial for F1 and for the future of the cost cap and now it is in the hands of the FIA to find the right level of punishment.

“But for me, it has to be a sporting [penalty] because, at the end of the day, it is a sporting infringement.

“We are not talking about a financial [penalty],” he concluded.
