George Russell comments on whether there are any issues between him and Lewis Hamilton, after Lewis said Mercedes fitted their upgraded front wing only on George’s car.

After the Monaco Grand Prix Qualifying, Lewis Hamilton revealed that Mercedes only brought one upgraded component to the track – a new front wing – and fitted it to George Russell’s car.

“The team have worked really hard back at the factory to bring an upgrade to the last two races and also an upgrade this weekend but we only have one, which George has,“ Lewis said.

“I anticipated it would be difficult to outqualify George because he has the upgraded component, but it’s great to see we are bringing upgrades.”

He added that he knows ahead of every qualifying session that he will have a deficit to Russell.

“Once we got to Qualifying, I don’t understand. I already know automatically that I’m going to lose two tenths going into Qualifying.

“That’s definitely frustrating and something I don’t have an answer for. I’m not driving any different. The laps were great.

“Just lacking for some reason,” the Briton concluded.

This caused some fans to speculate that Mercedes is favouring Russell over Hamilton, especially in light of Lewis’ departure at the end of the year, however, Autosport.com has since reported that both drivers were offered the part, and Lewis chose not to have it.

Team boss Toto Wolff has already strongly denied any favouritism within the team, but after the Monaco Grand Prix George was asked if the relationship between him and Lewis has faltered.

“No, not at all,” George said matter-of-factly.

“The relationship’s good,” he concluded.
