George Russell says he has already been informed where he will be driving in 2022, but he cannot announce it publicly.

The rumours that George Russell will be driving for Mercedes in 2022 are all over the place. Last week ahead of the Belgian Grand Prix both Russell and Valtteri Bottas said that they were not ready to announce anything officially.

At the Dutch Grand Prix Thursday press conference Russell was again asked if there are any news regarding his status.

“As it currently stands, I have no news to announce really,” Russell said.

“Same position as we were in Spa last week.”

When the journalists asked him if he himself knows where he will be driving in 2022, he said:

“Yes, I know where I’ll be driving next year.”

He was later again asked when did he learn this, and the young Briton said he was told “verbally, before Spa”.

“As I said [previously], I’m not going to sit here and lie and not say the truth,” continued Russell.

“The truth is: there’s nothing to announce, but, as I said, I’m aware of the situation of where I’ll be racing next year and I was informed prior to Spa, just prior to Spa.”
