George Russell picks his ideal team-mate after Hamilton retires

Ahead of the Italian Grand Prix, George Russell was asked to pick who he would like to have as his team-mate, after Lewis Hamilton retires.

At 38 years old, Lewis Hamilton is the second oldest driver on the Formula 1 grid, however it announced  today that he will continue driving for Mercedes until at least 2025.

Nevertheless, ahead of the Italian Grand Prix, Naomi Schiff asked his team-mate George Russell who he’d like to see as his partner, after Lewis retires.

“I’d pick Max [Verstappen],” the Briton said.

“Because when I joined Mercedes to be teammates with Lewis, Lewis was and is regarded as the best driver of all time.

“You want to go against the best, test yourself against the best, learn from the best.

“For me, having these 18 months alongside Lewis has been really, really great to push my boundaries, to learn more about myself as a driver and as an individual.

“And obviously Max is at the top of his game, right now, destroying Formula 1.

“So we’d all want to go against Max, and see how we get on,” Russell concluded.
