In spite of Mercedes’ significant issues in the first five races of the 2022 season, George Russell managed to finish in the top five in every race. He thinks it’s a “meaningless stat”.

George Russell has impressed everyone by being able to finish every race of the 2022 season in the top five, despite the issues plaguing Mercedes’ car.

However, ahead of the Spanish Grand Prix, the young Briton said he did not find that stat to be too impressive.

“That [top-five finishes] is all we’re going for,“ Russell said.

“We’re not going for the championship this year, just top five every race, obviously. So, it’s a meaningless stat. There’s only one that matters, and that’s the championship order.

“It’s good to stay consistent, but the Ferrari and Red Bull is clawing away from us at the moment, and we need to find some more lap time and find some more pace to turn that around,” he concluded.
