George Russell says the W11 is a “work of art” and compliments the whole Mercedes team including Lewis Hamilton’s race engineer Peter Bonnington – Bono.
When Russell stepped into the Mercedes W11, it was a giant departure from what he was used to at Williams. In 2019 and most of 2020 Russell has struggled at the back of the grid in an underperforming Williams.
“It’s a work of art, honestly, everything about it,” the 22-year-old told Channel 4.
“It’s so smooth, so nice over the bumps, so much downforce, so much grip. And I feel in control of it.
“A lot of cars, when they’re not perfectly balanced the car is controlling you, and you’re reacting to the car. But as the driver in that Mercedes I’m controlling it, and that’s just such a joy.
“That’s what you want in a racing car and that’s what you get in this Mercedes.”

The Briton even went a step further and gave strong praise to the whole Mercedes team. As a Mercedes junior driver he had previous experience of working with the team, especially from his time as their reserve driver in 2017. However, he has never experienced working with the crew in race conditions.
“This team is just setting the bar so high. I knew how good they were but coming back again, seeing it fresh, and Lewis’ team, Bono and the guys around.
“Bono has such a soothing voice, you almost want him to read you a bedtime story some time.
“Great bunch of guys and hopefully I get the chance again soon,” concluded the 22-year-old.
