Former McLaren Mercedes driver Mika Häkkinen says he believes team boss Toto Wolff is occupied at Mercedes for the time being.
Lawrence Stroll’s Racing Point will be rebranded as Aston Martin for the 2021 season. After news came out that Toto Wolff bought a stake in the British manufacturer, rumours about the Austrian’s move to the new outfit have intensified.
However Wolff already denied such a move and now Häkkinen, who was a part of Valtteri Bottas‘ management with the Austrian, says he doesn’t think he will be going anywhere in the near future.
“I got into Formula 1 almost 30 years ago,” said the Finn.
“Rumours of drivers, teams or engineers have always been around.
“I have known Toto for a long time, I appreciate him not only as a person, but also for his services to Mercedes and the whole Formula 1. He is a great ambassador for our sport.
“I can very well imagine that he is in discussion with a new team like Aston Martin, but given the current situation with regard to the 2020 and 2021 seasons, I believe that he is busy enough at Mercedes.”
