Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas have both highlighted the importance of Turn 1 at the French Grand Prix, as they look to “fight for the win tomorrow”.

Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas will start the French Grand Prix from P2 and P3 respectively. The Briton says the Silver Arrows will look to launch an attack on Max Verstappen into Turn 1.

“We’re going to fight for a chance into Turn 1 and there could be some interesting strategy tomorrow,” the Briton said after Qualifying.

“And I think there could be some rain tomorrow, so a chance to see a rain master. We’ll keep pushing, keep fighting and giving it everything.

“Their long-run pace is a tenth or two quicker than us, but the car’s in a much different place now.”

Valtteri Bottas agrees that Turn 1 will be key tomorrow.

“There is a long run to Turn 1 so we have to get a good start tomorrow and for sure they will be very close, but our long-run pace in FP2 looked good so I expect another tight battle,” said the Finn.

Needless to say, Bottas expects Mercedes to “fight for the win”.

“It’s been a strong weekend, for sure a lot better than a couple of weeks ago and I was hoping to fight for the pole.

“The last run in Q3 felt good so I didn’t feel like there was much more lap time to make up. I think Red Bull had the edge in a straight line here which made the difference.

“We are definitely fighting for the win tomorrow, we’re between the two Red Bulls with two cars against one, so on strategy, we can be smart and bring the challenge to them.

“Nothing is going to come easy but we’re ready for the challenge,” concluded the Finn.
