Amid talks about Lewis Hamilton’s contract negotiations, the Briton says he is eyeing a multi-year extension with Mercedes.

Lewis Hamilton’s current Mercedes contract will expire at the end of 2023, however, ahead of the Miami Grand Prix, the Briton said he wants to sign a multi-year extension.

“I’m thinking long term,” Lewis said.

“I don’t want to stay here for another year, I want to stay longer.”

At 38 years old, Lewis seems as motivated as ever, but he admits even he experiences dips in motivation.

“Some days I definitely can’t be bothered. Certainly if you look out the window in London and it’s raining and you think ‘I don’t want to go running in the rain’.

“On those days I question myself, where are you trying to get to? And I know that if I don’t put that effort in, I’m not going to get there.

“When I’m running and I feel like let’s walk the rest of the way or if I can’t be bothered to continue to push in the gym, I just start thinking about the finish line. Thinking about, how do I get there first?

“It always comes back to that,” Hamilton concluded.
