Lewis Hamilton says he is “really happy” that James Allison is again “driven” to help Mercedes return to the top, as previously “he wasn’t inspired to keep going”.

Earlier this year, after few fairly uncompetitive performances, Mercedes announced that the team’s Chief Technical Officer James Allison will return to his former role of Technical Director, and again start directly working on the car.

Allison stepped back from his active role within the team in 2021, but Lewis Hamilton says he is now again “driven” to help the team return to its former glory.

“James has got that leader mentality,” Lewis said.

“He’d be at the front with the sword saying, ‘let’s go into the fire’, and I think he does instil massive confidence in people. He’s so eloquent.

“I’m really happy that he’s back and he’s inspired to get back in. I know where he was previously – he wasn’t inspired to keep going because he’d been doing it for so long.

“So it’s cool that he’s come back and he’s driven and I think our friendship is in a better place than ever before,” Hamilton concluded.
