Soon to be 35 years old, Lewis Hamilton is one of the oldest drivers on the F1 grid. However he says his “age is not a problem”.
Hamilton started his Formula 1 career when he was 22-years-old, the current age of his two main rivals Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc. But while Hamilton was starting at 22 years old, Verstappen already has 100 F1 races under his belt. The Dutch driver started his F1 career aged 17.
Lewis Hamilton looks back on his younger years.
“Of course as a nineteen-year-old, I was very immature,” said the Brit.
“I lacked crucial know-how about how things work and how a team should work. I would have been great if I had known that at the age of nineteen.”
But Hamilton says he now feels better than ever.
“I have grown a lot in recent years. That is normal, I think that applies to everyone.
“My age is not a problem in my eyes. I don’t feel old at all. On the contrary, I still feel super fit, healthier than ever.
“I am not afraid at all and I am happy that these young racers are now popping up,” concluded the six-time champion.
