While in the cooldown room after the Hungarian Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton, George Russell and Max Verstappen shared a chuckle over Ferrari’s strategy choice.
Although at the Hungarian Grand Prix Ferrari had a perfect opportunity to close the championship gap to Max Verstappen, their questionable strategy decisions made sure that Verstappen even extended his lead.
The worst of it was the decision to put Charles Leclerc on hard tyres, which ultimately led to him finishing sixth, even though he started the race from P3.
When Lewis Hamilton entered the cooldown room after the race, he asked Verstappen and Russell if Leclerc was on hards.
“He was on hards?” asked slightly astonished Lewis.
Verstappen and Russell chuckled and said: “Yeah”.
Even Leclerc immediately knew putting him on hards was a mistake, as he could be heard complaining about it to his team over the radio.
