After it was announced that Lewis Hamilton will leave Mercedes at the end of 2024, to go to Ferrari, many have wondered if his long-time race engineer Peter Bonnington – Bono will also follow him to the Italian team.
However, it has now been confirmed by a Mercedes spokesperson that Bonnington will remain with the team in 2025, in an expanded role as head of race engineering.
Bono will also remain a race engineer for one of Mercedes’ 2025 drivers. Since George Russell has already built a relationship with his current race engineer Marcus Dudley, it’s likely that Bonnington will work withe the team’s other driver, who is as of yet unknown.
