Dr Helmut Marko has accused Toto Wolff‘s former special advisor Shaila-Ann Rao of leaking information about Red Bull’s rumoured budget cap breach.

The controversy surrounding Red Bull’s alleged 2021 budget cap breach is not dying down. While the FIA is expected to announce the official results of their assessment of the 2021 financial data submitted by all Formula 1 teams, many have already given their comments on the issue.

The most vocal among them have been Mercedes’ Toto Wolff and Ferrari’s Mattia Binotto and Laurent Mekies.

These comments prompted Red Bull team boss Christian Horner to imply that Red Bull is considering taking legal action against those who make ‘defamatory’ claims against the team.

Now, while saying Mercedes is damaging Red Bull’s reputation, the team’s advisor Dr Helmut Marko added they are doing this because of the controversial 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

“It’s a massive damage to reputation,” Marko told ORF.

“Abu Dhabi is long gone, it’s a bit strange that you still haven’t gotten over it.”

Marko then went as far as to imply that Toto Wolff’s former special advisor, Shaila-Ann Rao – who is now holding a high-ranking position with the FIA – is leaking information to the German team.

“It is more than surprising how Toto Wolff came up with these numbers. He speaks of a massive overrun, there must be permeability somewhere at the FIA.

“We all know that a close confidant and former employee of Toto Wolff is now working in a very high position at the FIA,” the Austrian concluded.

It has to be noted that this kind of accusation could also be considered ‘defamatory’ and damaging to the reputation of both Mercedes AND Shaila-Ann Rao.

Additionally, if Red Bull’s budget cap breach is not true, it would mean that Rao is supposedly leaking false information. Needless to say, this would make no sense.
