Red Bull’s advisor Dr Helmut Marko says Toto Wolff will try to sign Max Verstappen, but “he will not be successful” because “Max has a good memory” and has not forgotten “the crash at Silverstone in 2021 and the season finale in Abu Dhabi”.
Now that it has been confirmed that Lewis Hamilton is leaving Mercedes at the end of 2024, team boss Toto Wolff has to find a suitable replacement.
While many current and former Formula 1 names are being mentioned as Wolff’s possible targets, Red Bull’s advisor Dr Helmut Marko believes his countryman will try to sign Max Verstappen.
“Toto will try, but he will not be successful,” Marko told Sport.de.

“Max has a good memory and has not forgotten Mercedes’ accusations. The crash at Silverstone in 2021 and the season finale in Abu Dhabi are examples of this.”
Daniel Ricciardo, who is currently signed to Red Bull’s sister team Visa Cash App RB (formerly AlphaTauri), is also being mentioned in connection to Mercedes. Marko dismisses this option as well.
“Ricciardo still has a long-term contract and is not available,” the Austrian concluded.
