Red Bull team boss Christian Horner says Zandvoort is “probably more akin in layout to Budapest”, so “Mercedes could come back into the fray there”.

Ahead of the Dutch Grand Prix Red Bull team boss Christian Horner says he thinks Mercedes could again be as competitive as they were in Hungary, where George Russell took pole position.

“It’s probably more akin in layout to Budapest so Ferrari and potentially Mercedes could come back into the fray there,” the Briton said.

“It’s just a different type of challenge, but obviously, there’s going to be a huge expectation on Max as he returns there as the world champion and with the number one on his car.

“We saw the reaction last year and I think it’s only going to step up again this year,” Horner concluded.

These statements were made before Dutch GP FP1, where Russell finished the session in P2, closely followed by Lewis Hamilton.

It remains to be seen if Mercedes can truly mount a serious challenge to the dominant Red Bull outfit at Zandvoort.
