After a few verbal exchanges with Lewis Hamilton in the past few weeks, Sir Jackie Stewart congratulates the Briton on breaking the most F1 wins record.

Stewart recently drew ire of Lewis Hamilton fans when he said it’s difficult to compare Lewis Hamilton with Juan Manuel Fangio and Jim Clark and added Hamilton’s car and engine are now “so superior that it’s almost unfair on the rest of the field”.

Lewis responded saying some older drivers continuously knock him, which prompted Stewart to say he is “not trying to diminish” him or his accomplishments. Now that Hamilton statistically became the most successful driver in history (according to race wins), Sir Jackie congratulated him.

“I congratulate Lewis on achieving the remarkable success in surpassing Michael’s record,” Stewart told the PA news agency.

“Lewis has had a hugely impressive career from his karting days to his association with Ron Dennis at McLaren and then of course the wonderful Mercedes-Benz.

“I take my hat off to him for his considerable achievements and I wish him well for his continuing career.

“He is undeniably one of the best athletes in history and an inspiration to so many young people,” concluded Stewart.
