1997 F1 champion Jacques Villeneuve says finishing the season “without a pole position and a win” will “do something” to Lewis Hamilton, “and then it gets fun”.
For the first time in his Formula 1 career, Lewis Hamilton finished a season without a win or a pole position.
Jacques Villeneuve thinks this will push the Briton to be the best version of himself next year.
“Next year I expect a lot from Lewis Hamilton – we’re going to see the best Lewis,” Villeneuve wrote in his Formule1.nl column.
“He ended the season without a pole position and a win. That will do something to him, I think. And then it gets fun, Mercedes has been able to improve. We saw that in Brazil.”

The Canadian then gave his comments on Lewis’ 2022 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
“In the opening stages of the [Abu Dhabi Grand Prix], Lewis rightly had to give that place back [to Carlos Sainz].
“He also had some trouble with the mediums. Once switched to the hard tyre, he really flew around the track.
“It was a shame for him that he had to end the race like this, for the first time due to mechanical failure this season,” Villeneuve concluded.
