Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes nominated for 2021 Laureus Awards

Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes have been nominated for the Laureus World Sports Awards for their achievements in 2020.

The awards are presented each year, honouring individuals and teams from the world of sports. Lewis Hamilton, who shared the award last year with Lionel Messi, is nominated in the Laureus World Sportsman of the Year category. Hamilton has been nominated on six other occasions.

Other nominees include tennis legend Rafael Nadal, LA Lakers basketball star LeBron James, Bayern Munich footballer Robert Lewandowski, pole vaulter Armand Duplantis and long-distance runner Joshua Cheptegei.

In addition, the Mercedes Formula 1 Team has been nominated in the category World Team of the Year, along with NBA champions LA Lakers, Super Bowl-winning Kansas City Chiefs, Argentina’s male rugby team and football powerhouses Bayern Munich and Liverpool. Mercedes won the award in 2018 and was nominated on four other occasions.

The voting will be done by the world’s sports media, with the winners announced in May, in a virtual ceremony.
