Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas comment on a history making Protuguese Grand Prix, a race in which Hamilton broke the most career wins record!
With a dominant win at the Portuguese Grand Prix Lewis Hamilton broke the record for most Formula 1 career wins in history. After the race the Briton thanked his team.
“I owe it all to these guys here and back at the victory,” said Hamilton.
“They are continuously innovating and pushing the barrier. The reliability has been absolutely incredible.
“No-one is sitting back on the success, everyone is pushing and pushing and it’s the most incredible thing to be surrounded by.
“I could never dream of where I am today. My dad is here which is amazing, it’s a very blessed day. It’s going to take some time to fully sink in.
“I was still pushing flat out across the finish line. I’m still in race mode mentally.
Hamilton then described what happened during the chaotic race start that even featured hints of rain.
“We got some spitting at the start but I got into turn seven and I had a huge oversteer moment. I didn’t know what was coming next so I backed off massively.
“Arguably I should have tried to defend from Valtteri but I knew I could come back later and luckily that’s what I was able to do.

“I had a cramp in my right calf and I was lifting down the straight because it felt like it was about to pull. Pretty painful.
“I had to somehow to get through it – you can’t lift the whole lap,” concluded the six-time champion.
Valtteri Bottas managed to snatch the lead from Hamilton in the opening lap, however in the end he had to settle for P2.
“The first lap was pretty good,” said the Finn after the race.
“It drizzled a bit, which made it difficult. A number of cars on the soft tyre had the advantage. I was glad I got the lead, but after that I just didn’t have the pace today.
“I tried to defend, but I couldn’t really do anything about it. As I said, I don’t know why I didn’t have the pace today. I did my best, but I just couldn’t go faster.
“I was hoping to stretch the first stint and then go for the soft tyre at the end, but I don’t think it made any difference,” concluded Bottas.
