Lewis Hamilton talks about George Russell‘s arrival to Mercedes next year and says he has been watching the young Briton “come through” GP3 and Formula 2.

At the Italian Grand Prix Thursday press conference Lewis Hamilton was asked about his new 2022 team-mate George Russell.

“I’ve watched George come through GP3, GP2 [now F2], and I’ve watched a lot of the racing that he’s done, the moves that he’s done,” said the Briton.

“There’s no doubt that he’s incredibly talented. He’s going to continue to get stronger, even in these next nine races, and next year, he’ll be bringing the heat, for sure!

“I think the young talent that’s coming through is so great for the sport and it’s the future of the sport.

“I think new, fresh blood in our team is gonna be great. I think that definitely will energise the whole team.

“A new, youngster coming through, who is super hungry, driven and will be pushing forward.”

When asked if he expects Russell to push him harder than his current team-mate Valtteri Bottas, Lewis said:

“I can’t say that he’s gonna be faster than Valtteri or slower than him, I’ve not raced against him.

“I’m sure that he’s gonna be very fast,” concluded the seven-time champion.
