After the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton says “Red Bull won by 17 seconds and they’ve not touched the car since August or July so you can pretty much guess where they’re going to be next year.”
At the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Mercedes managed to finish second in the Constructors’ Championship, but Lewis Hamilton’s race was not what he had hoped for.
The Briton finished the race in P9, and afterwards he was not too happy with the performance.
“Not great,” the Briton said.
“I mean I just finished ninth, two really bad races. I was just slow throughout the race.”
There was also a controversial moment between Lewis and Fernando Alonso, when the Spaniard seemingly brake-tested the Briton on the approach to Turn 5.
“Well we were flat out 300m or 400m before the corner and I was doing 180mph and the guy all of a sudden slowed down drastically ahead of me,” Lewis said of the incident.

Asked if he is happy to leave the W14 behind, Lewis said:
“Yep. I really don’t know [what to expect from Mercedes’ 2024 car]. The car [W14] was the same as last year for me, so…
“Red Bull won by 17 seconds and they’ve not touched the car since August or July so you can pretty much guess where they’re going to be next year.”
Asked whether the 2023 season can provide some learning experience for 2024, the Briton said:
“Not particularly. Not too much. It’s not been a great year in general. The fact I survived it [is the biggest positive].
“Probably that’s about it,” Hamilton concluded.
