Lewis Hamilton explains why he missed the Ukraine support photo op

Ahead of the Bahrain pre-season test, Formula 1 drivers posed for a photo in front of a Ukrainian flag and a banner saying “No War”, but Lewis Hamilton was not present.

The photo op was organized to show support for Ukraine, following Russia’s invasion of the country.

18 drivers posed for the photo, with two missing. One was Russian driver Nikita Mazepin who was dismissed from the Haas team ahead of testing, and the other was Lewis Hamilton.

This of course made some people wonder why Lewis did not appear, but the Briton soon explained his absence on social media.

“Great to see our sport coming together in this way,” wrote the Briton, after posting the photo in question.

“Sorry to have missed it, my flight was delayed,” he concluded and added the hashtags #racingunited and #standwithukraine.
