Lewis Hamilton will get a new gearbox ahead of Dutch Grand Prix qualifying. Additionally, Ted Kravitz reports Mercedes has no concerns over Lewis’ FP2 engine issue.

Formula 1 technical delegate announced that Lewis Hamilton will get a new gearbox ahead of qualifying, in a regular exchange of parts.

The previous gearbox was used for six consecutive events in conformity with Formula 1 Sporting Regulations.

For those who are worried about Lewis losing power in Friday’s second free practice, it appears there is no reason for concern.

Although Mercedes is not yet completely sure what had caused the issue, Sky Sports F1 pit reporter Ted Kravitz reports the team is not concerned, as the engine in question was the oldest one in Hamilton’s allotment.

“It was power unit one, the oldest of the three in the system,“ Kravitz said.

“They don’t want to have any stoppage, but if there was any optimism beyond that, it might not be the one they were hoping to complete the rest of the weekend [with].

“If there was a silver lining, it was the engine that had done the most mileage. But it doesn’t excuse the fact that he lost mileage today,” the Briton concluded.
