After Red Bull showed they surpassed Mercedes in terms of speed and pace, Lewis Hamilton says the Austrian team “improved the engine and also some other parts of the package”.
At the Styrian Grand Prix Red Bull managed to pull off their most decisive win since 2013. Lewis Hamilton says he is not sure how they managed to improve their car so much.
“They were three or four-tenths faster,” the Briton told Sky Sports F1.
“Their speed was unbelievable. I couldn’t do anything. I don’t know where they get that speed from. I think everywhere, but especially on the straights.
“They’ve certainly made some pretty big strides in the last few races.”

Toto Wolff already indicated that Mercedes has shifted their focus from the current car to their 2022 challenger and the new Formula 1 regulations. Hamilton says Red Bull has brought plenty of upgrades for their car in the last few races.
“We haven’t brought any updates. I can’t remember the last time we made improvements. They do. They have improved the engine and also some other parts of the package.
“That’s what keeps them in front. We can’t do much at this speed. We have to keep pushing and I’m confident we’ll find something.
“Maybe they are spending more money than we are. Maybe we are putting more into 2022, I don’t know.
“I’m not the one who’s about the money,” concluded the seven-time champion.
