Lewis Hamilton says he is happy Toto Wolff signed on with Mercedes for three more years and says his own negotiations haven’t started yet.
With today’s announcement that INEOS will become a one third shareholder in the Mercedes team with Daimler AG and Toto Wolff, and that Wolff will remain the team’s principal, two major pieces of the puzzle have fallen into place.
One piece remains, namely, Lewis Hamilton is yet to sign a contract with Mercedes for 2021. Today Mercedes teased that the signing announcement is imminent, but Lewis confirms that he is yet to start his contract negotiations.
“We haven’t started a conversation,” Hamilton is quoted by the Race.
“Toto and I planned to do that over the coming days, we’ve been moving quite a bit over the past days travel-wise.
“But otherwise on a super, super plus side I’m really proud and grateful to see Toto sign. He is such an important leading figure within this team, and the success that we have achieved would have not been possible without him. He is such a great figurehead.

“The team’s just better for it, to have that longevity, and it’s great to see the commitment from Mercedes and the added bonus of having INEOS.
“[INEOS] have been a part of our success this year, it is great to see that they’re going to be a part of this team and help with the stability of this team moving forward and growing to be better.
“It’s going to take a big push for us to continue to raise the bar. But I think the right people are in the right place, and it looks good.
“The future’s bright for this team,” concluded the seven-time champion.
