Lewis Hamilton says the W15 “has generally not been quick out of the box”, but in “Montreal it was quick out of the box”, so it remains to be seen if “it was a one-off”.

At the Spanish Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton picked up his best result of 2024, when he finished the race in P3.

Ahead of the Austrian Grand Prix, the Briton says the result was very welcome, after a difficult start to the season.

“It feels good to have races like that,” Hamilton said.

“Sometimes you don’t get to have a race like that where you get to have your elbows out and have some really fun and challenging overtakes, but that was a really fun one for me.

“Barcelona always puts up a good race and it’s been a strong one for me for many years. We all need good days like that in our lives just to remind us that it’s still there.

“The fire is definitely there and just need to continue to supply it and keep it blazing.”

As for the W15’s performance, Lewis said the car was finally “quick out of the box” at the Canadian Grand Prix, so he is looking forward to seeing if this is now Mercedes’ new standard.

“Our car has generally not been quick out of the box, it’s something we always have to tune and work on.

“But Montreal it was quick out of the box, maybe it was a one-off, who knows? We’ll see tomorrow.

“But I like the Sprint weekends, it doesn’t give you a lot of time to adjust,” he concluded.
