Lewis Hamilton says he “tried everything” to help the team solve the W13’s problems, and “it ultimately hindered some of the weekends”.

Mercedes was struggling to understand its car in the beginning stages of the 2022 season, but the problems persisted even until the final few races.

During the first half of the season, Lewis was focused on providing the team with as much data as he can, to allow them to figure out how to improve the car.

Unfortunately it meant that he had to sacrifice his race performance, but the Briton says he did that willingly.

“Literally, I have tried everything,” Lewis told BBC.

“I’ve tried every setting you can possibly do. That’s what I was doing at the beginning of the year.

“The whole idea of performing at your best and getting the best result each weekend, of course that would be nice…

“But I was really about problem solving: ‘I will sacrifice this session or all the sessions to be able to find more data and information for you, so that when we go back to the factory they’ve got a better understanding of what’s going on.’

“But it ultimately hindered some of the weekends,” Hamilton concluded.
