Lewis Hamilton has paid tribute to his “friend” Sebastian Vettel, who announced he will be retiring from Formula 1 at the end of 2022.

Four-time Formula 1 champion Sebastian Vettel has announced he will retire from Formula 1 at the end of 2022.

Vettel has made his Formula 1 debut in 2007, the same year as Lewis Hamilton, and throughout the years they were often rivals on the track, but they also became great friends off of it.

After the German made his announcement, Lewis took to social media to pay tribute to his “competitor” and “friend”.

“Seb, it’s been an honour to call you a competitor and an even greater honour to call you my friend,” the Briton wrote.
