Lewis Hamilton responds to Nelson Piquet’s use of a racial slur, when referring to Lewis while commenting on his 2021 British Grand Prix collision with Max Verstappen.

After an audio clip of three-time Formula 1 champion Nelson Piquet using a racial slur when referring to Lewis Hamilton came to light, Lewis took to Twitter to give his response.

“It’s more than language,” Hamilton said.

“These archaic mindsets need to change and have no place in our sport. I’ve been surrounded by these attitudes and targeted my whole life.

“There has been plenty of time to learn. Time has come for action.”

Lewis also wrote a tweet in Portuguese: “Let’s focus on changing the mindset.”

Interestingly, before giving his response, Lewis retweeted a message from a fan, saying: “What if Lewis Hamilton just tweeted ‘Who the fuck is Nelson Piquet?’ then closed twitter”, along with his own message saying: “Imagine”.

It’s also interesting to note that Piquet is the father of Max Verstappen’s girlfriend Kelly, which is somehow making this awful situation even worse.
