In an interview with Channel 4’s Steve Jones, Lewis Hamilton was asked to name his ‘favourite’ member of the British Royal Family.

In a slightly awkward interview filmed at Kensington Palace, Channel 4’s Steve Jones asked Lewis Hamilton to name his ‘favourite’ member of the Royal Family.

“Who’s your favorite royal? Mine’s Kate. She seems very classy,” Jones said.

A somewhat surprised Hamilton responded: “Diana has always been my favorite royal.”

Jones then told a joke about Princess Diana, and her title of Princess of Wales.

“My wife, who’s American, thought the Princess of Wales was the sea mammal,” Jones joked.

This play on words raised a chuckle from Lewis, who then continued:

“I wouldn’t say today I have [a favorite royal]. I think Kate’s pretty awesome and I like Meghan.”

To this Jones added: “Meghan’s cool. The queen’s a bit of a badass too mind you.”

Lewis has been very vocal with his support for Meghan Markle even back in 2018, after she married Prince Harry.

“I watched [the Royal Wedding] here at the weekend just with a smile on my face the whole time,” the Briton told Sky Sports at the time.

“It was great to see such a positive change. It was great to see how happy they both were. It was just a really proud day for the world and it’s always great to see positivity and change.

“The fact you do have diversity in the Royal Family today is a huge thing, people probably don’t realize how important that is.

“Even to see at the church you had a mixture with the ministers, in the music, in the choir, it was just really beautiful to see,” the Briton concluded.
