Lewis Hamilton says it’s great to team up “with someone younger”, and hails an “amazing job” George Russell has been doing at Mercedes.

After five years of having Valtteri Bottas as his team-mate, Lewis is now partnering up with the 24 year old George Russell.

Ahead of the Australian Grand Prix, Lewis was asked how he feels about the “new dynamic”.

“It’s great. It’s good to be with someone younger, you know,” Hamilton said.

“I was just saying earlier on how old Valtteri is. [Turning to Bottas] You’ve got an old soul. But no, I think George has been great. I think he’s been great for the team.

“It was obviously an amazing journey that Valtteri and I had working together and George was already a part of the team before that. So it’s been going really well.

“We were surfing together the other day and, you know, he’s taking to… he’s blended really well into the team.

After George scored his first podium with Mercedes, Lewis was very complimentary of the job he has been doing.

“It’s incredible. He’s done an amazing job, he did an amazing job [in Australia], had great pace. He’s been so solid over these first three races.

“He’s working, really grafting away, he’s doing an amazing job,” the Briton concluded.
