Lewis Hamilton says he “probably” won’t win the 2022 championship, however he believes he will win his eighth title, but no for “the records”.
In an interview with Corriere della Sera, Lewis Hamilton was asked if he believes Mercedes can catch up to the frontrunners.
“I’ve been with these guys [Mercedes] for ten years,” the Briton said.
“I know how they work and the type of culture: we win and we lose together. They are highly motivated, they give their souls to bring us back to the top “.
Asked directly if he believes he can win his eighth Formula 1 title, Lewis said:
“Of course I believe it. It is not just a question of records, of sporting titles. I want to win to carry out all the behind-the-scenes work in favour of equality.
“F1 is no longer what it used to be: they set up garages, we raced and then we went home. Now it is a source of inspiration, it helps to form opinions.

“And it is in good hands thanks to a great Italian.”
He was then asked if he is taking about Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali.
“Yes, Stefano is the engine of change. We need open people like him, he understands everything and everyone “.
Asked then if he plans on still competing in Formula 1 at 40 years old, the 37-year-old said:
“Hard question! Let’s take this season: I probably won’t win the title, but I feel the same pleasure of competing as when I started. Why Should I Stop?
“Maybe one day I won’t be able to take the pressure anymore, I’ll be tired, but that day hasn’t come yet,” Hamilton concluded.
