Lewis Hamilton says Mercedes’ car upgrade is not “massive”, but “definitely helps us in terms of closing that gap quickly”.
With Red Bull standing 44 points ahead of Mercedes going into the British Grand Prix, the German team is in desperate need of a quick boost. This boost might come in the form of several upgrades that Mercedes is bringing to Silverstone.
At the Thursday press conference Lewis Hamilton said he hopes the upgrades will help the team get closer to Red Bull.
“It’s not a massive [update],”
“There’s a lot of changes on the car but it’s not a massive update in terms of the gap that we’ve seen in the races, but it definitely helps us in terms of closing that gap quickly.
“Massively looking forward to it. A lot of work has gone on over the past couple weeks.
“So, I’m hoping that coming back to a circuit that suits us a little bit better and hopefully bodes well for a closer battle at least with the Red Bulls.”

With the introduction of the new sprint qualifying race format, Lewis hopes these combined elements will help Mercedes take the fight to Red Bull.
“With all those elements I hope and pray, yes, that’s the case. Obviously we won’t know that until tomorrow. And also, another element is this sprint race that we have: this new format.
“Of course, it’s easy for any of us to get it wrong but there’s opportunities there, which is exciting, and, I like to think…
“There’s always talk of the energy and the buzz that the fans bring, and without doubt when it’s your home Grand Prix and the British crowd, you come with more.
“So I’m hoping that all those [elements] together close that nice gap those guys [Red Bull] have grown out in terms of performance, and enables us to take it to them this weekend,” concluded the Briton.
