Lewis Hamilton says Red Bull’s cost cap breach “definitely brings up emotion” from the 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, “for many people, the fans, for everyone”.

Lewis Hamilton has lost the 2021 championship to Max Verstappen in controversial fashion, after race director (at the time) Michael Masi changed the rules which govern the use of the Safety Car at the 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

However, after it has been revealed by the FIA that Red Bull was in breach of the 2021 budget cap, the whole situation became even worse.

When asked about this, Hamilton said he understands how this could “bring up” emotion from that controversial race.

“I don’t necessarily have much of an opinion because I’m not really focused on it,” Lewis said ahead of the United States Grand Prix.

“It’s happened in the past for me. I would say I’d moved on from last year, and of course this popping up at this point in the season definitely brings up emotion for many people, the fans, for everyone.

“For how it went down at the end of last year and then on top of that, this happened,” the Briton concluded.
